JD 50 All-Fuel

Howdy, I have a JD 50 All Fuel early serial number with DLTX 73 single carb. Rebuilt and cleaned carb. All new ignition parts. Now it hesitates or skips a beat when accelerating fast. Idles perfect. Runs wide open perfect. Has full power. Just needs to be accelerated slowly to not skip a beat. What should I look for? I never use the second fuel tank. I only run on straight gasoline. Would a DLTX 67 carb be a better option? The DLTX 73 is original from new. Thanks.

You have to remember these carbs do not have accelerator pumps and because of that if you go fro middle to wide open it takes a bit for the carb the catch up to what trhe engine needs

I have a 60 that did the same thing, idled fine but would always stubble on throttle up. Did all the usual things like points, plugs, condenser, checked timing and check for air way obstructions nothing changed. So on advise from someone on here I checked linkage from throttle lever to carb for binding that was the last thing I did, runs perfect now. Make sure all those connections are clean and lightly lubed. HTH

Did you remove the nozzle from the carb and clean all the small holes in the nozzle . this is the fuel well and acts as accelerator pump on this type of carb .

I am not a very good two cylinder person but had a similar problem on a 630 that I sent the carb away to be rebuilt. I called the shop and they told me to open the fuel screw one more turn as it was more than likely starving some for fuel. Like your tractor it ran and idled great but would fall on it face some during speed up.Tom

Is it warming up? My early 50 has shutters that haven't worked in decades. The heat gauge never moves.

I had a late B that stumbled like you 50, it turned out to be a problem with the rotor in the magneto. What was your cap and rotor like on your 50? If you take a pump spray bottle and spray your distributor and coil with water(you don't have to drownd it) in a dimly lit area you may see a cross fire.

Would be no diff between your 73 and a 67 carb as far as acceleration and/or idle. The load needle / nozzle are responsible for crisp acceleration. A mistake some make when doing their own carb is they don't get the nozzle all the way up in as far as it's supposed to go. Sometimes they stub themselves on the hole and don't want to go all the way. Make sure it protrudes abt. 3/8 "-7/16" up in throat of carb. I assume you already tried opening up the load needle to no avail. Bad or carbon fouled plugs will also make them hesitate/skip a beat so to speak.
