I'm going to take another look at the tractor for her and wanted to see what you all could tell me in determining the problem with it. While I had it running the temp light blinked a few times then a loud boom and the radiator cap released pressure. It bout scared the hell out of me!. I looked and it was so bad it blew the cap off of the overflow tank. I took out the thermostat filled it up with water and boom it did it again. I'm leaning toward a blow head gasket or cracked head. Anybody know any tricks or tests to help determine the problem without guessing? I can fix it myself and wouldn't mind if it's just the head gasket. I know the only way to check the head is to have it magna fluxed. I appreciate your help and time. Thanks.

If you had enough back pressure in the radiator to make a boom and blow a cap off I think it is pretty safe to assume the head gasket is gone. Now next time you go there it very well could be from sitting the leak may of went the other direction and filled a cylinder up so it might be hydro locked and will not crank over. If this happens DO NOT PULL START IT as serious damage will occur. Remove the injectors FIRST and then see if it turns and antifreeze comes out.
If it does crank over you could remove the rad. cap top it off and watch it as you crank it over for water or air to blow out.

You know if you get her to pay for the parts and fix it then some of the others can mow and you won?t get stuck with mowing all the time

Sometimes one is better off doing it all. The others may just tear it up again and he will have to find time to fix it again.
