1958 720 diesel

Any help would be appreciated. My 720 diesel has a knock at the clutch side pulley and I have replaced all the components in it with no better results also replaced the bearing in the clutch pulley. I have checked my flywheel to make sure it was tight with no end play and that's good so I don't know which way to go is it a crank bearing? Or Rod bearings?

Does the knock sound louder when the clutch is disengaged? When you re-engage the clutch is the noise "softer"? Check the bottom of your
flywheel cover for the presence of metallic dust. Have you retorqued the flywheel bolts?

Don't know WHY but a loose flywheel on those sounds like a problem inside or behind the belt pulley! Been there on a 70 D and a taper lock fixed it back in the mid 80's. Still going.

I'd almost bet yer hunting for the noise problem on the wrong end of the crankshaft.

Put the transmission in 6th gear, engage the clutch, lock the brakes, remove the flywheel cover. Put a pry bar into the teeth of the flywheel ring gear and see if there is any rotational movement of the flywheel on the crankshaft. The slightest of rotational movement will cause the noise you are hearing. If the splines are worn you will see movement even if it has been torqued to 250 ft lbs.

Thanks for the comments on my tractor. I played with it more and did get the flywheel to move so I decided to torque it to 275 and started it and
the knock was gone so you guys were right about the flywheel was my trouble. It's good it's not knocking anymore but bad it may not stay tight
because of wear on the crank and flywheel.
