I have an electronic ignition on my John Deere model A. It was running fantastic up until I left the key on. Leaving the key on killed my battery so I went to jump it and the tractor would turn over fine, but not fire. So I took out a spark plug and grounded it to the frame to look for a spark witch I didn?t get. Anyone have any ideas as to why I?m getting no spark?

Leaving your switch on definitely fried your module. I did it with a battery tender on the battery and it didn't run down the battery, but the spark was deader than a hedge post. Put in a new one and all was well. Stuff happens, it's called "life". We all do it one way or another.

On top of all that, with points you'd have had a chance of not even having a dead battery because it might have stopped with the points open. I was only once that lucky.
All electronic devices are assembled with a secret "electronic smoke" inside. Once that smoke gets out, it can't be put back in and the device becomes toast!
When it's not running & the switch is left on, the smoke leaks out of those electronic modules a bit faster than the rate at which the battery goes dead.
Not laughing at you or makin fun, just lettin ya know, been down this road too!

You could have overheated and fried the ignition coil. Check to see if there's continuity, maybe 1.5 to 3.5 or so ohms (depends on what coil it is) from the little + to the little - terminal. If it overheated and burned the LV primary winding open that wont be to expensive of a repair, just a new coil. HOWEVER you could have fried the elec ignition unit also !!!!!!!!!!
Put a test lamp on the coils input (from ign switch) turn on the ignition and see if it lights up IT SHOULD. If so put the test lamp over on the coils output (to distributor) and with ign ON if you crank the engine over it should flash ON and OFF if the elec switch is working. Of course, if the coils LV primary burned open the lamp on the output will NEVER come on as theres no voltage
Bad coil or bad elec switch are my first guesses
