Looking at an ad for a 2003 5220 with a 541 loader. Says 500 hours and looks good in the pictures but then every thing looks good in pictures. It has turf tires, two wheel drive and he's asking $16,500. Looking at others for sale the price seems in the ball park. Anything to watch out for on this model? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

2WD with a loader isn't a very good combination unless you plan on only occasional light loader work. Then too, you should pay attention to what transmission option it has if you plan on lots of loader work. See that the traction and PTO clutches work OK and have some adjust left.

I have a JD5210 2wd and it has been great little tractor. The price is in line for the hours. If a 2wd tractor loader tractor for you then I say go for it.

I have a 5105 and loader with 4x4 and R4 tires. If you ever had a 4x4 you won't go back to 2wd.
These newer models have a lot of loader lift but have really bad weight distribution ! They are very tippy. Hard to get enough counter weight on them. You might be able to get traction on that one with tire chains. What does it have now for rear weight ?

I don't have a lot of use for the loader but sure handy to have one around for lifting various things. I see what you're saying about being tippy as it has a short wheelbase and would be hard to ballast. Main use is mowing and chipper.
