More work on LI restoration

I got back to working on the LI today.

I had checked out the bull gears a while back, all bearings were good, but decided to change seals, as they were leaking a little. The shafts that stuck out into the axle housing were very pitted, but the good news was the pitting was outside the seal, so the new seals should work well.

I checked out the transmission. Both of the input shaft bearings had pitting on race and cone, so will get those ordered this week. All the other bearings were good. The input shaft bearings will get replaced and new seals. It will take a couple days to get the bearings, so that is on next weekends list.

I am not going to move the frame again until the transmission, bull gears and tires are back on, I have dropped it twice and not wanting to do it again.

When I redid my LA the shafts that stuck into the rear end housing had some pitting as well. I think that is just an area that gets damp. The ones in my LA had the old leather seals and had long been shot. I ended up putting sleeves on the shafts before installing new seals because of the wear. No leaks after that!
