John Deere L engine

I am looking at an auction that has both L tractors and LUC power units. Is the Deere engine in the L same as an LUC power unit? I compared some parts in the catalog and some parts were the same, but the block number is different the tractor is AL2871T and the LUC is AL2870T. Is this just a difference in the order code or are parts completely different between the two. I thought if I could get things cheap I could possibly make a good tractor out of the tractor and power unit parts. Thanks.

The LUC was the same as the LA engine. I have seen a few L's with LUC units stuck onto them. Not the best of jobs done on them they looked cobbed up because they did not have the correct clutch housing parts to bolt the driveshaft to.
IIRC the main difference in a later L and an LA is the engine bore size. An early L used a different engine made by Hercules.
Sounds like what you are looking at may work ?
