There is a 1948 AN or ANH that is coming up for sale. Wondering what the difference is. It looks to have the bigger 16 inch cast front wheel. Not sure on the rear tires yet. Will know more soon hopefully. Are there a lot of these around? Rear tires are bald. Rest of the Tractor looks good. Thanks

I'm not sure but I think the ANH would have had 42"rubber on the rear instead of 38 and much longer axles.

I think I read in one of the two cylinder issues that the only way to tell the difference is to identify the rear casting number. The AN will have the same number as an A but the ANH will have a different casting number as well as longer axles (maybe 104"?). I will try to check the magazine.

Pete in MD is right. If it is a late styled model (pressed steel frame, covered flywheel, battery under the seat) then it is an AN, which could be had with 42 in rears and a taller front wheel as options. Deere ditched the ANH designation with the end of the early styled tractors (mid '47).

Either way, if it has the taller rear wheels, it is more unusual than the standard (38") ones.

Thanks for all the info. The serial number is 598564.

My dad's first tractor was a new early 47 A with the single front, 42" rears and long axles and battery under the seat. Seems strange for a new tractor of this configuration to be sold here in Northwest Iowa but dad said new tractors were in short supply and this one was available. He said it had valve trouble but the dealer put in rotators under warranty to solve the problem. This was an early gas A and all of the bugs weren't worked out yet. He traded it off for a new 51 A.
