1949 A jumps out of gear

1949 A that under a load won't stay in 1 st gear.Slowly works its way out of 1st and pops into neutral.Thanks for any help
 
Check for and repair loose and/or worn bearings on both the upper and lower trans. shaft and put a new detent pawl spring in the shift fork.

That one short sentence is in reality a complete disection and overhaul of the transmission which is a good solid week's worth of work and $400 in bearings.
