'47 A Cam in '50 A?

Just a quick question for everyone. Will a cam from a '47 A work in a 1950 A? A young friend of mine is piecing together a basket case A, and the cam that was given to him was from a '47. He is hoping to use it (his cam was busted in half due to a thrown rod)... I know it has a different part number cast into it, but I was told that the later A cams were 'updated' to allow for a smoother running engine (not as much of a lope).

Any help is appreciated!

Might! The cam number A1142R is used up to Serial # 620323 which is a late '48 Model. Then the number changed. Can't say what changed. It might just be the grinding for improvement.

I believe the late cam is the replacement part for the earlier one. The difference is in the timing of the intake valve. The later cam has a later opening on the intake valve for smoother idling. For power, it's not a bad idea to regrind this cam to a more advanced lobe. Mike
