2510 center link

I recently acquired a JD 2510 without center link of course. I really don't get what the deal is not keeping it with the tractor. I didn't think it would be to hard to find an original top link to replace it. I have an after market version on another tractor and don't like it. The body is to fat to fit in the spring hook right. I've struck out on a couple different salvage yards now. All they want to do is sell the AM version. I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine to take bits and pieces off a tractor to sell somewhere. It wasn't at the sale the tractor came from so no idea where it went to. Mostly just a rant I suppose but if anyone knows a source for a good one let me know.

Yes wonder the same thing and some of the tractors you see posted for sale have the lift arms removed, Why??? its like buying a bucket without a bottom. My 2 cents worth.

Bought a 720 diesel once. Made the deal about price with the guy said 3 pt came with it but not the quick coupler. I said fine. I had to come back later to pay and get it. I go to get it and quick coupler is off of it fine so far. Then I ask about the top link which was there holding the quick hitch on before. Guy started throwing a hissy fit about how that didn't go with it blah blah blah ,part of the quick hitch ( which we all know they are not ). I did get the tractor for a good price so I didn't push the issue. I paid him loaded up and left.
My cousin bought a 720D parts tractor from another guy to get the 3 pt. and some other parts. This guy had the top link still and was using it on his Ford tractor. We even offered to buy a replacement for the Ford , but he never did let us buy that original top link.

As you may already know they appear on EBAY quite frequently. They are surprisingly spendy, but they are there. I may be speaking from ignorance as I am kinda comparing them to the generic ones in the farm store, which are not nearly as well made. Makes me almost want to remove them from my tractors and lock them up each night.....

Might not be a bad idea to lock them up ?

We bought a JD 530 at an auction once and it had the factory original unbroken top link on it. As soon as we got the winning bid I unhooked the top link and took it with me and locked it in the truck. Many years later when we sold it that top link went with it too. as they should.

I don't know from whom you bought your 2510 from but I would say that in most cases people don't sell things off the tractor. Top links get taken off because the holders get weak and break over time. Or it is something to smack your head into while attaching an implement to the back of the tractor. I was tempted one time to take the lift arms off of a tractor after dad managed to damage two PTO shafts. I don't know how he could have done it as if they were either fully raised or lowered they could not have hit the PTO shaft while turning. In any event things such as the 3 point hardware get stuck in a corner in a shed with stuff thrown on top for good measure. 20-30 years go by and nobody can remember what happened to those pieces. Then ten years after the tractor left the farm somebody decides to clean the shed and there they are.

I think the guys that never ran quick hitches are more prone to have center links go missing. I realize there is a hook to store them when not in use, but they break easily and then your link is either haning or it gets removed and tossed in the shed. I am a real fan of jd quick hitches and have one on every tractor. To me, a quick hitch solves so many problems that I wonder why anyone would not keep one on the tractor permanently. For one they keep the arms from bangin around so much or better yet, flopping out and catching the tires (so annoying). Plus it's a great to way to never loose your center link because there's no reason to remove it. I also have a peeve about guys that let the top links sieze up. I lost count of the number of tractors I have bought that I had to heat and heat the buggers to get them freed up. Sorry had to join in on your rant.

A reason not to have a quick hitch is when the lever works it's way down and you do not notice. Neighbor destroyed the hitch on his 7000 planter late one night. He did both sides before he realized it. On many older 3020-4020's the hitch leaks down overnight and that can pinch hyd hoses on implements as well. Nothing wrong with a quick hitch and I wish I had a second one but do not want it on my 3020-4020's all the time. Tom

I do not know who the first person was to take one off and I wish they never would have. But I have taken dozens of them off over the years as a way of getting an extra $150-200 more dollars for a tractor. Many people never use the three point anyway. Out of the ten or so tractors here only two have the three point on them. Tom

Right after my brother bought his 730 at an auction, a man came up to him and asked if he'd like to buy the original top link for it. Here it had sold earlier that day, and this gentleman had bought it expecting to also buy the tractor later. So he had a top link and no tractor!

My brother bought it off the guy for what he bid for it.
