John Deere power steering vane seals

How do you install these? I bought 4 knowing they are difficult to put on. I manage to get one on, but the other 3 broke at the corner. I heated them up with a heat gun and my hot oil cooker to 220 degrees. They seemed stiff, similar to plastic. Ive done these years ago, but the vane was more like oring material. Thanks

Another thing, what about the oil? When drained it was red in color, looked like ATF.

Use the JD power steering oil in that system. You can repair the torn seals with super glue. The seal is trapped in place once it's reassembled so it will work fine.

It sounds like they changed the material they make them from ?

I have not done any for several years and like you described it seemed like o-ring material back then. Was stiff but soaking in hot water and some liquid soap and a small screw driver then would go on.
I just hate it when they redesign stuff that didn't need to be !
