new here but have been reading a lot on this site. i have a 1967 JD4020 gas and i was wondering what diesel engine i could replace that gasy with

TimS will be able to tell you what is needed. He should come along after awhile.

He is always trying to talk me into swapping my gas engine out for a diesel ! LOL. I just like the gas engine for what I do with it.
If I was going to go diesel I'd go ahead and get a newer machine with a sound gard body on it !

The best engine to use is a 404 non turbo out of a 6600/7700 or a 466 non turbo out of a 6620/7720,,these have the smaller pump and work out much better than one with a turbo and large Bosch inline pump, if you want to add a turbo to go with the smaller pump that works out well also, when you get closer I will help you with the little stuff..you will fall in Love with that old Gal after you get done...

I expect you can find 4020 diesel engines easily enough if you want original.

Yes there are a few around here for sale, needing O/H'ed,,and who knows how many times they have been O/H'ed,,a newer engine without as many birthdays gives them new life...

I'm gonna show some ignorance here but why no turbo and why a rotary pump? The Bosch pump lasts far longer and the benefits or a turbo speak for itself.

I would be interested in your old motor if its a runner and your gonna pull it out.
looking for a later console 4020 gaser.
thanks. email me back.

No ignorance,, A Bosch pump is a stronger running pump,,and actually a better pump, but that configuration does not work well for low end power and does not match up well in a 4020, The smaller pump is better for preforming the duty's a 4020 normally takes on,,125-135hp matches the clutch and the radiator better also,,plus the throttle linkage works out much better,,put the one with the Bosch pump in a 4320/4520/4620....

hey guys thanks for all the replies. i guess i should have included that i have a job still and sometimes i cant get back to all the replies right away but i will keep in touch. and again thanks so much

A late 105 Diesel combine has the exact same 404 as the 4020 except for the oil filter at same location than the 4520.
