3020 went boom

son was using his 3020D to load bales for me this weekend. was heading to the field and he said tractor acted like is was out of power and engine slowed way down. started to come back so he took off again and it went "boom". no holes, nothing flew off just "boom". good thing he works for Deere and now we have a winter project.

A big "Boom" or a Little "Boom"...

As long as it didn't go boom like the 3020 that killed a local fellow here at the end of July. Ran away and the flywheel came out.

I would like t know how that happened, if it was a gas burner it would be easy to stop if diesel it would need outside source of something to burn as the pump would go out off stroke at high speed, this sounds like a tall tail

If engine is burnt toast might consider making it a 3520. Frame rails and hood from bone yard. 404 from combine. Need someome hyd lines, etc. Just a thought.

In Argentina, they made a 3420 with a 329 and a 3020 rear end. Should have been a nice tractor.

Unfortunately it is not a tall tail, I've seen what's left of the tractor and I am friends with the family, very unfortunate. Best I can figure is the metering valve stuck and it took off.

3420 looks neat, basically a cheaper dry clutch version of the 4030.
You could always put a 239 or 276 in it with some work, I did one, documented what had to be done here, I'd do another one, makes a really snappy/handy tractor.

This older company said that they are making parts to repower 3020s.
