2955 hard start

So the last few times I have started the 2955 I have had to. Crank for an extended time. Not sure what the problem is. It seems like maybe the fuel is leaking off when the tractor sits. The longer it sits the harder it is to start.

I think you are probably on the right track with looking into the possibility of this being fuel related, with fuel leaking back in the injection system. We had a Deere tractor with a Bosch rather than Standadyne/Roosa Master fuel injection pump which this would happen to. We would pump the manually activated part of the fuel system until we heard fuel going back into the tank in order to bleed any air out. This did have a positive effect on starting, especially after the tractor had sit for an extended period of time. I suspect if you find this, there is likely a check valve somewhere that is allowing the fuel to bleed back in the system.

Is the primer pump the one on the side of the block driven by the engine.

Yes fuel transfer pump is on RH side of engine block. You could install a check valve(key 17) at fuel filter similar to photo.
