337 baler pto problem.

I have a 337 jJohn Deere baler w a kicker ,strange question but the pto where it slides onto the tractor won't come off,the locking collar just won't release it,I have had the baler a lot of yrs first time it has acted like this.

What tractor do you have on it? On mine I have to shut the tractor off because the pto clutch putting pressure against the shaft.

Got a White 2-70 on it ,always worked fine before ,seems the collar won't release the shaft no matter what U do.even with the tractor stopped.

I have had that issue with my NH baler at times, usually if I rock the flywheel to take pressure off it will do the job. If the plunger is at the far end against hay try to move it back a little

Unhitch the baler and drive ahead sliding the PTO halves apart and see if it will come off then. I have one that does that occasionally. Then take the snap ring off the front remove the collar, spring and 3 balls clean everything up and remove the old dry grease and relube and reassemble. Won't hurt to clean up the tractor PTO spline too. Fluid Film works well.

Ditto on driving tractor forward from baler until pto shaft telescopes apart then attempt to remove the baler shaft from tractor. Both yoke & shaft might need some lubrication along with telescoping part of shaft.

Think I will try UR idea of separating the shaft, ,got a bit of second cut to do when I finish will try that ,already put lots of lubricant on it,it's like the little balls are out of place.

You guys were right soaked it well with penetrating oil ,took the pressure of it completely ,pulled the collar back pushed it forward ,then back and it let go .Thanks you guys were right ,first time this happened.
