Schwartz wide front.

Can some of you give your experience with the Schwartz wide front end? Good or bad. Looking at one for a 3020 with a loader on it. Only will do light duty work with it.

They are ok for a 2510,3010,2520 or 3020 by themselves but I would not want one under a loader tractor. I would rather have a rollomatic than a schwartz with a loader. Tom

I believe a Swartz is better than a Norden or a Speeco & they will do good for you. I question a Loader?
Swartz isn't a John Deere Wide Frt.....

My advice would be to spend a little more and get a JD.Even the JD have problems if misused with a loader.Anything aftermarket parts does not improve resale much.I have bought 4020s with the 30/40 series front end or also with the Case front end which are great for a loader but most people would rather have the correct one.I think the A&I made in Canada for JD has a heavier center but what breaks are spindles and knees even if you are careful sometimes.

That is incorrect. Parts are still readily available for a Schwartz wide front end, and you can still buy the whole front end NEW. We just finished rebuilding a Schwartz HD wide front under my dad's 3010.

There is a standard duty and an HD. Most noticeable difference is the spindles are 1.625" on standard duty and 1.75" on HD.

I would rather have a factory JD wide front just for the sake of originality but the Schwartz wide fronts are very nice. I would not be afraid of using a loader with one. Let's be honest, if your trying to lift enough to break one, you'd probably break a Deere one too... Plenty of loader tractors out there with Schwartz front ends. Plus it seems the front ends are usually neglected...can't tell you how many spindles, spindle bushings, thrust bearing and wheel bearings I replace that are original.

My 70 came to me with a "light duty" Schwartz. I hit a coyote den and wiped it out but good. In looking for replacement, I looked at a heavy duty one and it seemed quite a bit heavier. Ended up going with a 4020 rolomatic narrow that fit my 70. I sometimes regret it because it's difficult to steer in reverse with a loader full of rock and I only have an armstrong unit for steering. My $.02.

You got a lot of great comments below I cannot add to.

One item not covered is whatever front end you buy make sure you look it over carefully. Maybe even take it apart before you buy it if you can. I have rebuilt several front ends, JD and Schwartz. Each time I was surprised how much work they needed. I agreed to put a Schwartz front-end from friend A on friend B's 3010 purported ready to go only to find out it needed a lot of work and parts. I put a lot of money into it so I took the final step and had it sand blasted and primed. I painted it myself.

Good luck.

Had one under the front end of a 3020 with a Westendorf WL-40 front end loader. Loaded a fair amount of manure for the first 7 or 8 years. Lighter duty for the last 12 or 15 years. Cannot recall for sure, but entire time on that tractor was around 20 to 25 years. The Schwarz wide front end was completely worn out when it was replaced a few years ago with another Schwartz. Both, I believe, were spec'd out as the HD wide front end. I would have rather seen a Deere front end, but I was not the one paying the bill. It has worked and it has served its purpose quite adequately. I would suggest pricing out the HD Schwartz and a Deere/A & I, and make your decision based upon the difference in cost and what you can justify spending for one versus the other.

We had one under a 3020 with a loader for many years without any trouble. It eventually wore out the bushings, tie rod ends, and steering splines to the point that it would have taken over $600 in parts to make it tight again. I opted to put a 4240 front end under it via an adapter plate from Rock Valley tractor parts. Shown is the Schwartz front end, the adapter plate, and the 40 series front end installed.

Having said all that, you may get along fine with the Schwartz provided that the tractor is not run wrecklessly.
