Dad's 2550 won't start. Only clicking I hear with the ignition on is a clicking behind the dash when I move it in and out of neutral. 80's modei. Pulled off access plate in center of floor, looks like only switch there might be PTO. Where might I find the Neutral Safety Switch.

Neutral start switch(key 27) screws into front of rockshaft housing. Sometimes one can remove switch take off a washer or two reinstall switch & s will start operating properly.

If a relay is "clicking" your neutral switch is probably OK.
Relay could be faulty or starter solenoid. Check there first.

On cab tractors there are other relays besides start relay that could be clicking when ign switch is in "on position"

Well I'm back at this. Doesn't appear to be the neutral safety switch. Continuity when out of gear. Pulled the switch anyway, continuity with ball depressed. Have 12 volts on one side of neutral safety switch harness with ignition switch on. The other side of the harness is going to ground, which I believe has to be wrong. Any ideas on where to look next?

Remove RH side of dash cover which just pulls off. Then check for bad connections on printed circuit board(key 6) which also just pulls out. This printed circuit board has a long history of having failed electrical connections. There's also 2 relays & several circuit breakers that are present that should be checked for continuity.

Other side of harness is going to ground thru the starter solenoid if testing with test light or voltmeter. Jump it to battery and the starter will engage - please be careful.

That double top hat connector Deere uses for the neutral safety switch is always going weak in it's spring connection and failing to operate. They do come apart so you can bend the spring back for many more years of trouble free use. It's the connector, not the switch and not the wire. Take the connector off by inserting skinny and thin flat metal along the flat side to force a spring prong down that traps the plastic connector to either wire terminal. Insert an automotive pick into the spring loop to rebend it into working condition again and insert the terminal back into the connector after bending the prong so it locks into the plastic shell.

Yes starter does work if jumped. I wanted to take the wire off the solenoid and check continuity back to the neutral safety wire, but I needed an extra set of hands and more time. I did notice that one side of the connector was coming out when attached to the switch but I thought I was able to push it back on. 4 hours away now, but hopefully I can get back to it this weekend.
