Wico C Mag Problem

I bought a mag from a fellow that said it was good, ,I took the mag off my tractor, I took the New mag put in a vise to check it for fire, well I could turn the mag forward and backward 360+ and it would not click and it had NO resistance, Took the mag out of the vise turned it over and spun it by hand and it would then Click, Good, put it in the tractor and it sound like it had a weak click and no fire. .. Took it out. ..Checked my mag and it would spin 360 forward and backward with no resistance, I took it turned over and it then got resistance and a good click,, Put back in the tractor. Rotated the mag forward and the set the flywheel at the 3 o'clock mark, rotated the mag backward till it click, That should be in perfect Time. . But now it has no fire, Why? it ran the tractor 30 minutes before. . Is it possible that it could be out of time internally? .Both mag are type C.

Did you have the plug wires hooked to a grounded plug when you snapped it.? If not, the spark has to go somewhere. You may have hurt the insulation of the coil & now it fires to ground instead of the plugs. In other words, the coil is shot. Send your mags to me & I will check them out for you.

I hope you did not clamp it in the vise at the housing sides ! If you do you can make the rotor drag in the housing. Always clamp them on the mounting flange.

Got it figured out this morning and all is working well. Guess when these thing frustrate a person it's best to walk away from it for awhile so your mind can have a chance to clear itself. Thanks
