4010 Diesel Air Breather

I have a 4010 diesel in the shop that I am working on for someone else. I opened the left side screen behind the fuel tank and the oil bath on the bottom of the air breather had fallen off and was just laying there. From the appearance, it looks like it hasn't been checked and has been off for quite some time. I am concerned with what may have gotten sucked in the breathers wire mesh screen. Should I remove the breather and soak it for a while to clean the mesh screens? I think they mainly use this as a chore tractor so it hasn't been in extremely dusty conditions, but then again I don't know how long this oil bath has been off. Thanks for any advice.

It's an "oil bath air cleaner", NOT an "air breather". That being said, remove the unit and soak it in a 5-gallon bucket of your favorite solvent and agitate it up and down over period of a few days, and, eventually, the rolled up screen will be as clean as new.
