730 propane valve

My liquid valve leaks propane when opened. Was rebuilt with REGO kit. Not sure if its just the nylon washer that is damaged under the nut that holds valve or the valve is unrepairable. Leak definitely got much worse when nut was tightened more. Drained out propane , will dissasemble next week. Any tips or thoughts appreciated

Hard to beat the old school graphite and thick grease impregnated packing string that used to be used under the stem nut on these, the move to modern design with O rings doing all the sealing might work if only one could purchase a decent neoprene O ring. But they cheap out with the cheapest mix of rubber possible today forcing rapid replacement of even hydraulic hose. None the less some grease will help the stem seal system no matter what it is, I have had some success going back to graphite packing string if some can be found. Can't say I have a source other than dismantling of also old rope type crankshaft seals found by happenstance in an old gasket set or even the shop's trash can. McMaster Carr might have some but probably pricey, FleaBay might be selling 10 pounds for an insane 'collectors' amount too or an absolute steal.

try your local propane dealer,,i worked for heritage propane for years and we had several different designs and makes of valves..we sold many of them to people who walked in looking for such a piece

the rego repair part number is 3100-80B this is the right part if your valve is still the original 7100 series valve. it does not have a threaded stem. if you have a nylon gasket they probably gave you a 3100-81K which is the o-ring conversion and has a stem. the 80B is the same seat as the original. you do not use a gasket. make sure the valve is clean on the inside. you use your old stem and nut with the 80-B.
