3pt hitch

I have a John Deere 2240 tractor. My three point hitch cannot
stay up with an implement on after the engine is shut off. It's
slowly lowers itself until it's on the ground. Is this common or
do I have a hydraulic leak somewhere around a seal? Any
help would be appreciated.

Seems like you may have a deteriorated piston seal or possibly spool valve is badly worn....I would think of the main seal...most of these older tractors will not hold a tool in height position for very long....certain amount of leak down is common...
