3010 Gas, RearEnd Failure?

Looking at buying a 3010 Gas, it has a recently rebuilt engine, and a "solid" trans. Guy I am buying from buys tractors to part out, but this one was too nice to be torn down apparently. I haven't seen pictures of it yet, but he says it is a 3 wheeler tractor. I am very interested in it, but he says the reason he got it is because something came apart or broke in the rear end. Says for sure the engine / clutch / trans are fine, it is rear end issues. Is there a common problem, or am I walking into a total unknown?

$1300 for it I think, plus a little extra to get it here. I think at this point it is well worth it, and the rear tires are REALLY nice as well. Your thoughts?

Jack it up in back both sides at once. With a helper try holding one tire and turn the other. Listen and feel. Then try turning both at once.

Check trans/ hyd filter for flakes and sparkles.

Report back.

Is the hydraulic system and rear end the same fluid / system?

IF there was chunks of metal, etc floating around in the rear end, could it in theory make it past the filter and wipe out the front pump? I could see that being a potential deal breaker!

Brake parts can contaminate the whole system but rarely will it take out the front pump. There is a screen before the trans pump then a filter before the main pump. A 3010 gas is not one of Deere's best tractors not bad but nothing to brag about. As far as parts there are plenty in junkyards and with some shopping parts bargins can be found. The tractors with the cast iron Zenith carbs will run better than the others. Lots of parts on ebay. Good luck. Tom

Don't waste your money. It is not a great tractor to begin with. Probably only a $2500-3500 tractor in running condition. Sounds like a good parts tractor to me.

Bought an old 3010 standard diesel a few years ago and it wouldn't move found the sun pinion in the axle broke not a difficult repair

Same here. Buy it for the $1,300. If it's
to bad to fix part it out. You can make
your money back pretty easy on that one.
