Hi Guys,
My friend has a 420 (1957) that pops out of 1st gear under load (going up hill)..Took the top off tranny..forks look good...no flat spots on balls...Ist gear is a little worn on left edge and gear it engages is a little
worn on right edge...
Please help..

How much end play in the top shaft. .001-.004 is the usual spec on end play.

I had one that did the same thing.Think I had to replace first and reverse gear.It was a back to back gear. I had a hard time finding a gear because JD makes two different gears with the same part number.
