1973 4430 soundgard wiring - old flaky wire insuation

Resolving a few little issues on the new tractor. We found that the flashers were not working. Jumpered around the flasher unit and they work - so that was easy. Will buy a new flasher unit.

Work lights are getting no voltage. Left hand high beam not getting voltage. Right hand light works just fine. Saw a non-factory wire coming off the power at the solenoid and traced it around to the left side of the tractor - looks like it is bypassing around the cab connector. Looking closer - the soundgard wiring harness connects to the tractor harness under the left foot just behind the battery box. The wires coming out of the connector going up into the cab are in bad shape. Wire insulation flaking off and a possible fire hazard. Saw 3 bare wires. I am guessing that this may be the reason the work lites are not getting power. In any event, want to replace the connector and wires far enough into the cab to insure good insulation and no possibility of shorting.

I am sure this is not unusual for a 40 year old tractor. Does Deere have the correct connectors with pigtails that I can buy to repair this issue? part numbers would be helpful.

Are there other body to cab connections I need to inspect or is this the only one. I want to preserve the connectors if possible to make it still possible to easily pull the cab if a split is ever needed.

Here's some wiring pigtails listed in 4430 PC

Thanks Jim, I will see if I can match them up. I priced a new harness for that side of the cab - $350! Definitely not going that way.

You could check with Agri-services as they offer wiring harnesses for 4430. They also offer wiring pigtails.

As a followup, I just completed replacement of 2 of the wiring harness components. These are the ones that come off the firewall bulkhead - one that goes to the cab and the other that goes to the engine. The cab loom was still in good shape. Bought them from Deere and they were 100% complete and correct even for my first year 4430. Solved all of my intermittent electrical issues and all features of the cab are now working. Was expensive but was the right way to go in my opinion and should last another 40 years.

Becoming a fan of the SGC. Super easy to work on. Just lift the lid and all is accessible. A plate under the pedals gave me complete access to the connectors as well. Excellent engineering.

I typically make my own harnesses. It is not to difficult. For the most parts this series used a Delphi Series 56 connectors and terminals. I buy my supplies from Waytekwire.com
