Is replacing the draft control rod on a 1520 gas a very big job? thanks rick

No but one needs to drain trans oil. Put L/D lever under seat in "D" before removing shaft. This also a good time to check cleanliness of sump screen. Upon reassembly be sure to shim excess side play out of shaft.

Thanks what is the purpose of putting the lever in the d position. There sure are a lot of parts to replace compared to a 4020.

Near the same parts as a 4020, moving the load lever takes a bit of pressure off the arm that goes down to the shaft to make it easier to re-install the shaft.

I'm not following on "more parts to replace than a 4020". If bushings & shaft are not worn then all one needs is seals.
2ea-A4730R O-RING & 2ea-T22098 washer

Putting lever in "D" relieves tension applied to pin(key 13)
