John deere 2010

I had one for a lot of years, and it treated me well. A lot of fellows don't have good word to say about them. So I guess I was lucky with mine.

from comments here I think the gas was better than diesel. I believe parts are becoming scarce. It seems like guys who have a good one love them, but they did have lots of problems if not a good one or if used a lot.

(quoted from post at 02:10:21 08/18/17) How good of tractor is a john deere 2010 gas.

I have had one since 1970, very little issues. Been a very good tractor.

Most people just repeat what someone else thinks with no real knowledge. Yes you can have a bad one, but you can also have a bad 4020...

The tractor is 50+ years old, so parts are getting scarce, but I have yet to have an issue. There are also obsoleted parts for the rest of the 10 & 20 series tractors that everyone seems to forget about when they start there rant about the 2010.

I was employed at a JD dealer when 2010's were sold new. 2010 with gasoline engines aren't too bad BUT the brakes & hyd systems weren't very good when they rolled off assembly line & I doubt use of those items made them better. The pto mechanism that engages pto leaves a lot to be desired. And the Prestolite starters were a piece of junk.

If you're happy with your 2010 then that's all that matters. I certainly would not buy one to use

You can nit pick any tractor...
The 4020 had a 24V system.
The 4020 also had a Delco starter which everyone condemns.
The 4020 gas everyone complains about
People cry that it cost to much to rebuild a 4020 powershift trans.

The list on any giving tractor can go on and on...

It's ironic you picked JD's most famous tractor to compare with the worst tractor that JD ever built.

FYI 24 volt system is fine just most people don't understand or know correct procedure to diagnose it's problems. Delco starters are hands down better than the Prestolite starters utilized on some 2010's.

If you read my post you will see that I was not comparing the 2010 to the 4020. I was making a case that you can condemn and praise the same tractor. Regardless of make or model you can always find something wrong it.

Only the 3rd worst tractor that Deere built . 2nd would be the Diesel 1010 and the turkey of turkeys is the 2010 Diesel.

And if you'll read my post you'll determine I had 1st hand experience with your beloved 2010 when it was new, used & abused!

It seems to be when a 2010 was made. There were several in my area. I seemed to me that the early ones were about one step above junk and the real late ones were decent tractors, as long as they were gas. Diesel and all bets are off. This is just my opinion, so don't shoot me.

I have a 2010 gas. They were rated at 45 hp brand new. Mine is lower, I am sure. Hydraulics are not strong but it starts easy and I like the tractor. It is a gas hog, though. I once went to a tractor salvage yard where there were at least 100 different tractors. At least half were IH, so what does that say? Anyhow, There were 3 of the 2010 diesels. All had cracked blocks between cylinders. So that is the answer to why stay away from the diesel version. Maybe just too thin there.
