John Deere 420C decals

I am working on restoring my John Deere 420 crawler. The yellow strip is just barely visible. Was that originally a decal or was it painted yellow? I have looked at a few places regarding decals and do not see the yellow strip on the hood available as a decal. My grandfather originally purchased the crawler in 1958 and the engine has been completely overhauled and new pins in the tracks. Serial number is 133412 (if that makes a difference). Dash looks like it was originally black but hard to tell. thanks in advance.

Paint the stripe john Deere yellow, then get some vinyl decals from Jorde or K&K. jdcrawlers.com is a website devoted to John Deere crawlers. The friendly folks on there can give you a lot of advice.

Thanks, I am kind of tempted to take off the sheet metal and have it professionally painted and then paint or not paint the rest myself. It is a working
tractor. I do not use it much, but I occasionally move dirt and snow with it. The downside is that two kinds of paint probably never match. On the other hand,
probably a real pain to paint the engine, etc. and any paint on the tracks and blade would wear off quickly with us. The engine has been completely overhauled.
And I took the tractors up to Lavoy several years ago and he replaced the pins in the tractors (when I say up...I live in Nebraska and I took the tracks up to
Lavoy near Fargo.

I have a "56 and a "57. The "56 hood is all green and the "57 has the painted on yellow stripe. I bought that one new. The "56 might/could have a different hood on it.
