Distributor repair

Okay, guys....my JD60 distributor (Delco-Remy I believe? distributor #1111558-2E8) is locked up. Well mostly-it's hard to turn and kinda grinds. The bearings/bushings are a mess and very tight. There's no way in hell I'd try to rebuild a starter (which is why I bought a rebuilt one) so can a guy with common sense rebuild a distributor? Are there any videos out there with pointers? And is anything special needed? Everything on the top was replaced when I tuned it up, and it ran fine....until the distributor started locking up. And yes, I know it needs oil. However, I didn't find that out until after it locked up.....I think it was dry years ago. Inputs? Thanks

Have you tried removing that screw in your picture? I'm pretty sure that's where you oil the bushing. You might try some oil and gently work it back to life. Because it seized, I wouldn't think the bushing would have much slop.

Thanks PJH. Yeah, I didn't even know the distributor was supposed to have oil in it until I read that in my owners manual. Anyway, I filled it with oil and it's set a day or two. I turned it slightly just now, but it's either gonna have to take a lot of patience and turning to fully free it up or I'll have to rebuild or replace. My persona guess is it probably won't get much better. But I'll give it some trys.
