Throttle lever removal on 720

The throttle lever on my 720D was not staying in the position I put it in. There seems to be no friction between the lever and the bracket. I tightened the spring to the maximum and still there is not tension enough to hold it in place.

I removed the whole throttle assembly from the tractor and had to cut the spring and the stud to remove them from the assembly. My problem now is how to separate the lever from the bracket. Mine has the two dowels. I am afraid to bang on the lever for fear of braking it off. Does anyone have a method for separating them?

NOT sure why you'd cut the stud, couldn't you get the two jamb nuts off???

ANYHOW, at this point, some penetrating oil and judicious tapping, maybe alternated with some heat from a torch, allow to cool to ambient, then more "loosen juice" and tapping,it will eventually come apart. Lever needs to move freely on dowels to spring can keep tension on friction material, when you're done cleaning it up.

When you back together with it, for disc I have taken and old leather boot and cut them out, Did this on my 730 12-15 years ago and still working good.

In reference to what was stated below, if you don't have leather, I once cut the disks out of the lid of an old 5 gallon plastic bucket and used that and it works fine also.

Use some emery cloth and polish the dowels to aid in disassembly, also clean up the bushing that goes over the bolt. When you put it back together use never-seize on the dowels, bushing and bolt threads.

Sound like you may need to heat it up. I made a friction disc for my 70 d out of a 3 " cutoff wheel. years ago and it still is working fine.

In Green Magazine there is an ad from a guy, Ray Grambihler in Tripp, SD that makes plastic disks and a bushing for $25 plus $5 S+H. Call 7-10 pm Monday thru Friday @ 605-935-4245. He is 83 and does not sound that old and a super nice guy. No credit cards. Mine works great on the 720D.
