4230 Updates

What year or serial number have the updates on this tractor. Was going to look at one and knew that some of the later 4430's had upgrades. Anyone know about the 4230? Thanks!

Started with serial # 34,664, the out board shifters are a good focal point, if it has that it has all the best stuff..

Where the shift linkage comes out of the right side of the transmission, the older ones the arms are close to the transmission,, the newer version they are extended out about 6-8"(out-board),, main thought was to let the linkage from the cab come "Straight " down to meet them instead of bending in to meet the old style, the straight pull was more stable, and the longer housing would not wear as badly,, a lot of older ones have are worn egg shaped a bit to give more lost motion..at this point in production that model had all the best stuff available,,th3 4430's was serial #60,636

Thanks Tim! Was able to see exactly what you were talking about. Went to a sale shopping but didn't bring anything home.

yes, there was a update to the camshaft on early 42-4430 etc.,, built around 1974-75 the oil pump drive gear mated to the cam.. the cam gear would wear to a knife edge at low hours, & eventually shuck off completely leaving you with NO OIL PRESSURE. we did several camshaft replacements, back in the day,, it was a DEERE PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT.

Ooh yes,, I forgot about that,, and I changed a bunch of them too,,using those darn magnets to hold the followers up...The Crank driven oil pump was a great improvement, that came along latter in the upper 40 series..
