630 fenders

I have a set of flat top fenders with
out brackets to put on my 630. The
tractor never had fenders and still
has the wood dowels in the bolt holes
on the axle. Would you drill out the
wood and get the brackets, or leave
the wood alone and build brackets off
the front and back of the axle using
the mounting studs there? Thanks

they are actually cork plugs instead of wood dowls.
they are very easy to dig out.
if it was my tractor I would get the original brackets for the
fenders and bolt them on properly.
there is originals available or good looking reproductions,
depending on the size of your wallet.
putting it to original looking will increase the value of your tractor
and will be far much better looking instead of cobbled up brackets.
besides, if the corks are still in the axle its time to take them out
any how and run a tap in the threads. if the cork is porous it will let
moisture down in and POSSIBLY cause damage to the threaded area.
