John deere 60

With engine stopped, turn the two idle mixture screws all the way in, then back out one turn.
These are the two underneath the throttle plates, behind the fuel bowl.
Then back off the low speed screw on the throttle arm.
If the idle circuits are clean, the engine should idle, although be it slowly, about 400 RPM.
Turn the idle mixture screws in or out to get the engine running its best.
Then turn the low speed screw in until it touches the stop pin, then about one half turn more, about 500-550 RPM.
The altitude metering screw in the bottom of the stem has a normal setting of 2-? turns out after screwed in.
Some engines will need a little more than 2-? turns. It is not a load adjustment screw.

There are several pages of diagrams, illustrations and instructions in the operator's manual. Doesn't cost much for a lot of information on the carb, drive clutch , pro clutch , power steering etc . Reprints at Sharps or call 1-800-522-7448.
