How many styled G's with pan seats

Does anyone know how many styled G's were made in '47 with pan seats? Before they switched to box seats?

Reviewed the JOHN DEERE TRACTOR DATA BOOK under the [b:654c4848f0]John Deere Model G (1941-1953)[/b:654c4848f0] section in the [b:654c4848f0]Comments[/b:654c4848f0] topic on page 71.

"[i:654c4848f0]March 7, 1947-July 29, 1947: serial number 23000-25671 model G with a steel seat as on GM.[/i:654c4848f0]"

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that information James. I was looking at tractordata and their serial number list doesn't match up with yours. Theirs says that the first number in 1948 is 25235, but yours says 25671 was produced midway through 1947. How could that be?

I have no explanation for the accuracy or inaccuracy of the information presented in the JOHN DEERE TRACTOR DATA BOOK.

Will answer with different information presented by Yesterdays Tractors.

Take a look at the table below.

Note the starting serial number is [b:654c4848f0]20527[/b:654c4848f0].

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]SEAT, PLATFORM, AND FENDERS[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note the seat (Key 12) and seat channel (Key 13).

Take a look at the part description list below.

Note the ending serial number G2599* (the last digit 9 would not display the reply).

Based on this information, the number would be 5,472.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the additional information. With 23000 being the first styled G with a pan seat and based on the parts diagram showing 25999 being the last serial number with that seat the number would be around 2,999 tractors. I guess out of 64,000 made, that's not too many.

A lot of times when JD introduced a major change they scrapped a lot of serial# tags so that the
first "new" tractor started with a Thousand number, e.g. in this case 26000. The number of "pan
seat" G's in 1947 could be a lot less than 2,999.

So I guess this goes back to James' first post where he cited the John Deere Tractor Data Book serial #'s 23000-25671 (2,671 made).

John Deere's fiscal years and calendars years did not always match up. A tractor built late in a calendar year could have shown up elsewhere as a fiscal year "newer". I have seen that has caused a lot of discrepancies in serial number/year lists.

Msteinblock,

I don't believe JD fiscal years and calendar years ever matched up. Any confusion comes when talking
about Model year and calendar year.

Except for model years '39 through '48, the model year started on Nov. 1st of the year before the
model year and ended on Oct. 31st of the next year. As an example, Model year '37 started on 11/1/36
and ended on 10/31/37.

Yes, that is what I was getting at. I think some publications are using serial numbers by calendar year, while others are using fiscal year, thus creating confusion by some trying to figure our years by serial.

You guys are working too hard. You need a copy of Mr. thinker's Almanac. The first was 23000 and the last was 25671. So to be perfectly accurate, there were 2672 built. You have to include the beginning and ending tractor.
