620 PTO will not stay engaged unless held down w/foot

Neighbor says his 620's pto will not stay engaged unless the pedal is held down with his foot. Never worked on one b4 so hoping its just an adjustment. I do not have a 620 service manual but do have an old operation manual. Would the ops manual be of help? (i'd have to find it) Any guidance is welcome to help him correct his problem.

My 630 started doing that this spring. I adjusted the clutch itself, plus the threaded clevis on the linkage rod, and the little stop screw on the pedal assembly. It works good, no slippage - but the pedal moves farther forward than I like, and the PTO brake is about worn out. I hope to make it last until this winter.

On my 630, the right hand three point "elephant ear" has to be removed to get to the access cover for clutch adjustment. There is a screw on the drum assembly, under the access cover, that you have to screw IN to allow adjustment, and back out to lock. I found that it was easy to lose the location of the screw as I rotated the adjustment. The screw doesn't fall out, but instead gets hidden under the tabs, then it's "which tab is it under?". Think about that before you turn anything in there. I think the manual showed two different ways of adjusting, based on the serial number. Mine was odd - it is a late 630, but it had the early style adjustment, so it should resemble the 620. You may have to make a feeler gauge out of a "L" shaped wire. If your books don't show the adjustment procedure, let us know and I'll try to scan the pages.

I don't tackle many jobs any more without going to YouTube first to see if someone has posted a video of it. In this case they are there.
