2140 hydraulic issues

A freind i help out at times brought a 2140
with loader on sight unseen. Its tidy for
its age few oil n fuel leaks like you expect
runs good drives good only ot has a problem
with hydraulics. I picked it up at the next
door neighbors since he trasported it home
for us. Loader lifted no worries at all did
what it should. Drove couple mile down road
steering was handfull. When got back
steering was lumpy. Loader n 3pt hitch
shudder when lifting like air in system but
oil level is over full by a bit. No leaks
like oring gone on suction side or sumthing.
Is the filter on suction of pump would this
cause this situation. The loader return line
goes back into the filter houseing

1st thing to do is change hyd filter,check/clean sump screen(key 20) & check to be sure hyd filter relief valve(keys 9-11) isn't stuck open. With 3 pt raised, engine running at operating temp(200°) look inside hyd filler hole behind seat for misting oil. if oil is misting rockshaft control valve seals are leaking. Is tractor equipped with hyd hi-lo &/or hyd ind pto? What type valve controls FEL(ind or scv)?

Its got a pearson loader on it dont know if
you have them in the states not sure where
oils comeing from to loader its all separate
to the scv's. It has hyd high low how does
that work like a massey multi power or what
where it locks in on 1 side under pressure.
Started off in low n used high all way down
road no problems didnt think to play with
that when looking also has hyd pto it
engaged snd stoped under no load

Hyd hi-lo & pto supply tubes have a history of having leak problems in the tubes &/or sealing rings. To check if FEL valve isn't the hyd problem remove return line from hyd filter housing then aim open return hose in bucket or hyd filler hole behind seat. With FEL control levers in neutral start engine and no oil should exit return hose.

While you have the hyd filter out, look up in there. Facing the front of the tractor is a hole, if you can see a tube there, then the delivery line from the charge pump has come adrift. Transmission housing split to fix, but there is an update to prevent repeat failures. If good, and suction strainer clean you need to get a pressure gauge in the main pump inlet and destroke tool and find where you are loosing flow.
