50 idle hunting

Been in the process of restoring a 50 for a few years. Engine has been overhauled. Bored block 90 over, new pistons, rings and the head has been rebuilt. Rebuilt carb and distributor. Got it running over the weekend, fires up on second round. Run strong under load but if it's running free it hunts for an idle. Fast or slow idle don't matter. Pull choke and can make it come out of it. I've had the carb off three times and cleaned. Readjusted valves and checked spark plug gaps. Tried adjusting carb but seem like nothing changes. I've sprayed carb cleaner and blown through all ports of carb. Sure seems clean but I could be missing something. Any and all advise would be great full. Thanks in advance.

Have you adjusted it per book where you get both sides running the same RPM by shorting out the opposite side ? This will also tell you if something is still plugged up. Linkage sticking or binding ? Throttle shaft bushings a little too tight ?
Don't rule out a bad condenser acting like a carb. issue either.
Worked on a guys 60 that ran better with choke out. I was like the 2nd or 3rd guy into the carb. as he brought it to me. I didn't see anything bad either. I went to his place after it was back on and running and tried a condenser and that fixed it !

The steel plugs need to be removed and drill bits of the right size ran through the idle passages. The removal is beyond the ability of most people. You could send it to Mark Shraut, Poppin John, or Randy G.

take it from experience your carburetor is clogged in the idle passages....without removing the balls it is extremely difficult to get them cleared...I've done it by soaking 3-4 times cleaning out with wire from bag ties, tip cleaners but it is very, very, very difficult.....you just think your carb was rebuilded....these tractors run on idle to hi idle most of the time unless you make a pull...id ask for my money back from your previous carb rebuilders...
