820 pony plug wires

bought new plug wires--question is they are hard to push into coil holes and stay attached--new wires have projecting chrome tip as does coil socket--should plug wire tip be cutoff...old plug wire had no projecting tip
 
Sounds like the plug wires you bought are for the original JD coils that have spring clips inside the coils. The aftermarket coils have barbed posts that you push the plug wire onto. Look inside your coils to see what you have. If you have barbed posts you'll need to cut the bayonet terminals off the plug wires you have.
