Late A loose flywheel

Anybody had any luck just changing the flywheel on a late model A ? The crank looks splines look nice and square not all beat up .

should work if the crank isn't damaged. Might want to get new bolts, as the old ones may be "stretched" and won't stay tight.

If you can, mic the splines on shaft and wheel and post so people who know what they are talking about can comment (not me in other words). I have a 70 with good looking splines, but the flywheel was cracked around the hub from "hole to hole". It was explained to me that sometime it got a little loose, wore the splines a little bit. Then someone tightened it down to take out the looseness and it cracked. Bingo-taperlock time. Mucho sheckles. If there's some way (ANY WAY!) to shim up the splines a bit you could probably avoid this fate. Remember, experience is the best teacher and someone else's experience is the very best teacher!

Good luck!

I've had some success and others you just have to get a taperloc for them. If you have or can find a good used one close by try it. If you have to spend good hard earned cash for one then just buy a taperloc.

Tractor was bought with a knock . I have access to maybe 2 or 3 flywheel I will try first . Who and where dose one call or search for a taper lock company name ?

I am in SD if you need a flywheel and good crank i can help for less than half the cost of a tapper lock at lest $1000.00 for a tapper lock

Allen Machine Works of Jonesboro TN is the manufacturer of the Taper Lock. I think the last one I bought was $700. They work well.
