JD500 Hydraulic Pump - Bleed Port

Question on the JD500 hydraulic pump. The backhoe came with a long section of rigged plastic tubinge from the hydraulic pump bleed port (secured w/hose clamp) routed to the top of the hydraulic filler tube (under operator seat). Naturally the dipstick only sits loose due to the tubing with a white sock over the whole setup to keep dirt out. It works in that the overflow fluid from the pump gets back into the tranny - but would like to clean up and get it right. I've purchased the bleed tube kit (long black tubing with flare type fittings on each end) from the JD parts diagram but nowhere can I find in the parts manual or diagrams where the other end connects into the transmission so I can clean up the tubing mess? Our local John Deere dealership (Nortrax) does not know - can anyone point me to where this connection in the transmission would be? Thanks.

Frt hyd pump seal drain line attaches to brake valve reservoir with fitting(key 13 or 14).

Looks like there were quite a few versions, depending upon transmission and series. I would look for a elbow or tee fitting in the area of the return line from the brake valve. Either "tee'd" into the brake return line, or a separate fitting on the clutch housing or transmission case in the area where the brake return line connects.

That being said if the main shaft and bearings and primary seal in the hydraulic pump are in good condition there should be VERY little oil returning from that port.

That was easy - found it. The tee has a brass cap on it. Cant' wait to retro fit to clean up that tubing. Thanks much.

Glad you figured it out! When I encounter something like this I always wonder what the P.O. or "his mechanic" were thinking!
