John Deere h no start

I have a 1941 John Deere H. Hand start, no pto. It won't start by hand. But if we pull start it, as soon as you engage the clutch it fires. Runs great. We can hear the mag snap loudly. This is my first hand start tractor. Any tips or advice?
P.S. I'm 26 years old, 250 lbs. Rolling it over hard enough isn't the issue.

Every one has it's own personality. My 42 hand crank likes to have the throttle just barely open when cold. Give it full choke till it fires. Turn off choke and roll it a couple of turns to crank.
After it is warmed up, it wants no choke, but still just barely open the throttle.

Sounds like the impulse is not working right, on any mag if it fires when pulled and not when cranking, the impulse is weak and not giving that extra umph to fire it off.

Check the spark plugs when rolling over by hand. Just pull them out and ground them to the frame. If you have a spark with a hint of blue in it when the mag trips, your impulse is fine. If not, you may want to tighten the impulse spring a turn or so.

Glad it worked out. Once you learn their personalities, they are much easier to get along with.
Even then, they can have a bad day and frustrate you. LOL.
Once and a while, if mine does not want to start, I will walk away and come back later and she will fire right up.
