I broke my 720D, with lack of a cotter pin

Lost cotter pin on Decompression activation rod. All of a sudden tractor makes some noises and does run right. I'm assuming some internals broke when the decompression thing got into a position in should not have been in. It's near the camshaft and valve rods. Also noticed that I get no oil pressure, so whatever broke is letting oil free flow apparently. Looks like I'll have to tear down quite a bit of the engine to get at all this. Any thoughts?

Amazing what a cotter pin can cause.

Thanks

Make sure the decompression rod is fully released . The decompression lever holds the valves open . Remove the tappet cover first and look for bent push rods etc..

JD 2 cylinder diesels have a bad habit of shearing the oil line to the center main bearing. Could be the problem with no oil pressure. However, I had one that would run good for a few minutes until it got warm and then slowly die. Oil line was mangled so that oil pressure still showed good. Start with easiest to check/fix first. If you have compression on both cylinders, I doubt it is compression release or valve related. Oil line to center main fix involves crankshaft removal after a bunch of other heavy hardware. Problem results from too much end play of the crankshaft.
