R Model starter conversion

All, I know this is a topic that has been covered mildly before. But I haven't been able to find a whole hell of a lot of information on it, or shoud I say... hard answers. Is there an electric starter for a John Deere R model. I've thrown a rod in the pony motor, and I really just want to get this thing running good. I do not want to have to spend time rebuilding the pony motor if it's not necessary.

(quoted from post at 22:15:38 08/03/17) Deere lists a Delco 1107082 starter for an R tractor. HTH

I think I didn't come off clear. I'm looking for an electric starter to replace the pony motor. NOT the starter for the pony.

Finding a 12v starter with the correct drive is not the problem. You will need to fabricate the mount and plug the water line ports for the pony.

Yea, I've actually considered this. I was wondering if there was a kit. Something "plug n play"

In the Green Magazine there is a place that has an electric start kit for an R. Phone 717-445-9465. I put an electric kit on my JD 80 several years ago, and it's AWESOME.

Ohio has/had a lot of bank style barns. These were the preferred parking spot for 2 cyl. diesels as then you could roll them down the bank and start them up. But pretty unhandy if you stalled one out in the field !
Seems like you are going to have to fab one up yourself ? or repair/replace the pony.

I owned two John Deere "R's" and Installed a 24 VOLT Starter from a Caterpillar model G333 6 cylinder engine on one of them.

Inspection plate over Main Engine / crankcase was removed and a plate 3/8" thick was installed. All attaching mounts to starter were welded / fabricated to the 3/8" plate. One Cap screw, aligned with one of the Starter mounting holes in the Starter Flange and the backing plate behind the R's Flywheel.

Conversion worked GREAT! Conversion was done about 1977?

I really appreciate all the advice and ideas. It looks like I've got some planning ahead. I guess I'll just have to see what cost in quickness is better for me.
