John Deere H Cultivators

Hi:
I am new to JD H tractors. Will a set of John Deere B cultivators fit on an H or do I need cultivators specifically for an H? Many thanks!

Years ago I put my 42 H cultivators on my 39 A by just lengthening the rods in front of the radiator.
Then later I shortened the rods and now use them again on my H.
That is just the ones for the front. I have never used the rear ones on them. Never saw the need.
You should be able to make them work on your H.

Hi:
Im looking for attachments for this H tractor. I live in SE Missouri.
Could I call to see you have and pricing? Thanks Kyle E, 573-450-2920.

H cultivator models are different from the models used on A's and B's, H's dimensions are just different...narrower znd shorter all way round.....But with enough determination and patience...and a few bucks I'm sure you could adapt them to work on your H. I had a H years ago and it was a pretty nice tractor to cultivate with if you didn't have a lot of acres to cover. H's just don't have enough power to "push" a set of 2 row cultivators doing a good job in most soils very fast...Mine was in near perfect shape, but just couldn't run the cultivaters any faster than second gear...about 3 miles an hour. But I loved using the H on row crop beans when they were small...Adjusted right you could literally "hoe" the beans the first time through when they were small just chugging along in first gear, doing an acre an hour or so,...and you might use 6 gallons of gas all day.. But when the beans or corn got bigger and you'ld like to roll in third and throw a little dirt my poor H just couldn't hack it, not up any upgrade at all and I did have some "gentle" hills. My Super M Farmall (hiss, boo) and the four row got the call, it would do forty-fifty acres a day...on 20 plus gallons of gas.

I agree that using the 2 row setup on the H, it is lacking power. That is why I use only one side. And I plant one row at a time anyway. When I put these on my 39 A, they bolted right on the side with changes only to the front braces. I put a rod back to the rockshaft to lift them on the A. On my H, I moved the cylinder to the side. Works great in the garden.

I cultivated a lot of corn with an H and two row cultivator. The John Deere hand lift mechanism was the best I have ever seen--one lever, great counterbalance springs, greaseable pivot joints. It was easy to lift the cultivators on the ends, spin around, and drop them again without slowing down or stopping. Especially third time over I always ran in third gear, never lacked power and this was in heavy Ohio clay.

I really need to talk to you then because we just put a cultivator on my H and it is nearly impossible to lift, something is wrong, and I am glad what you said, because we were going to try to add hyd pump etc. Rickey -mha_1@swbell,net thanks in advance, I need some help !

There are two counterbalance springs (called lifting springs), one on each lifting pipe on each side. The instructions say to "Adjust the the tension on the lifting springs on each pipe at the front so that the lever handles about alike in either direction". In other words, it should take about as much effort to push the cultivator down as it takes to lift the cultivator up. And the instructions also emphasize the need to keep everything well oiled on the lifting lever mechanism.
