Currently working on cleaning a DLTX 81. It's in pretty good shape over all, I've got it torn apart and plan on cleaning it with carb cleaner and the #40 bit that Robert's recommends. Are there any other secrets I should know about? Robert's mentions taking out the balls that seal the idle passages, how does one go about doing this? The throttle rod has about .030"-.050" endplay, is that anything to worry about? It has some play in the bushings as well, not a whole lot but some, how much is too much?

If you are going to do it yourself and want it right, spring for the Roberts video. Best $ 20 you will spend and will explain it a whole lot better than text on here will.

The thing to remember about worn bushings and throttle plates is that the purpose of the throttle is to restrict air flow which in turn restricts the amount of fuel the engine receives and changes the ratio. If you have air leaking by a worn plate, the tractor will get more fuel which increases the speed of the engine over the throttle setting. Leaking of air through the bushings can lean the mixture out. So it is important to have these areas tight.

I weld tails on with mig welder and pull them out. Next best is take to machine shop and have them use a mill which will cut hardened steel but you will also have to then thread and use brass drill plugs to seal holes back up. just a lot of work for nothing in my opinion. If you can't weld them, take it to a body shop or machine shop and let them do the welding and pulling then. Body shops are practiced up at migging in tight places and on light metal.
