A buddy of mine thought it was a good idea to pull another tractor out hooking the my draw bar support. So to change this pto housing draw bar support do I need to split my tractor? I have parts diagrams and know what's all on the pro shaft internally.can I do this without a tractor split or am I wasting my time

Pto hub assembly and drawbar support I believe is what it's called. Any info is greatly appreciated. I already have 10 hours in this to figure out how the parts diagram works. I want to pull the whole shaft today but don't want to loose my gears off it. Kinda screwed either way. Looking for more knowledge. Sick of other people wrecking my stuff. If I have to split this tractor again my haying season is done. Been a tough couple years with others costing me a fortune

According to "line drawn" in parts catalog pto drive shaft(key 61) must be removed to R&R housing(key 47). R&R of pto shaft requires a split between clutch & trans housing.

Tx Jim do you think I could get to that
front pin and cotter key from the front pto
plate? If I could remove that pin and
sleve? Would I be able to slide that pto
shaft out? I know them gears would slide
off the shaft but I was thinking mabey with
two people we would be able to get them
finagled back on working from both sides??
Or am I totally thinking backwards?

I have never done it, but at least you can try to push a round bar from the front that will hold the pinions in place. On paper it works. If it doesn't. Split it...

I'm sorry but too much water has run under the bridge since '87 for me to remember & I have no access to a 4000 TM. You have an interesting thought of removing housing with shaft intact. Maybe one of the real technicians will reply with the correct answer.

And how far would them pinion gears be able to fall down. Sorry for the questions. I'm dumb when it comes to these pto systems. I should be cutting hay. And if I have to split it again it will be the second time I have split this tractor because of someone else. It's getting expensive. I was going to try and do it myself but mabey this is a job for my mechanic

You're going to have to split it behind the clutch housing to remove the pins in the collars for the pto shaft to be removed. It's not too bad to do.
