Installing crankshaft on 1950 B

I need your help, and yes, I have a I&T manual and "Restoring your John Deere Tractor" book. I had to have my crank turned, and while it was worked on, the "sharpie" mark I made disappeared. I can't find a mark to align the crankshaft with the camshaft gear, which also turned when I was putting the new oil pump connector on. Any help at all would be [u:02b625a18b]greatly[/u:02b625a18b] appreciated.

Both gears should have a marked tooth. The marks may be on the inside surface so you can see them through the top opening. Camshaft gear would also have a mark on the outer side for the governor gear. Going on memory here, it's been a while.

My 51 B has a little arrow or 'V' pointing to where the CRANK GEAR tooth should go into the cam gear. It is on the side of the cam gear that has the casting mark letters. Mine has casting mark B195R. Hope this helps a little.

Sorry I couldnt help. Some one might have had a bad day when your crank was built.
I certainly hope somebody comes on here with a pic of a crank to give you something better to go on. Good luck.

Some did, some didn't - doesn't matter as your flywheel should have LH exhaust mark. Place that at 3 O'clock position and arrange for cam to start of opening #1 exhaust valve. You are now timed as to cam/crank. Be sure to time governor gear at #1 TDC however which will be Impulse mark on flywheel at 3 O'clock. Looking for horizontal magneto drive slot there.

I went through this with a G and it was a pain. Pretty much what LEE said than move it a tooth or two.

The timing marks on a late B are on the inside of the crankshaft gear. The marked tooth is
right by a crank throw. You need to mark the tooth with a sharpie before you put the crank
in the tractor. The camshaft has two timing marks on it. Make sure you use the mark that is
on the inside surface, mark it with a sharpie also before you start. The marks on the
outside of the cam gear that are easy to see are for timing the governor to the cam.

the mark is 180 degrees from the number 1 journal you view it from the right side of the case. i have never see one that was not marked
