I hoping someone can help my daughter. She is taking a John Deere LA to the fair. She needs to write up a book on what she has done on the tractor and the history of the LA. We cannot find much information on the history and purpose of the John Deere LA. Does anyone know where I can find information or do they have information on it? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Here's some <a href="http://petcaretips.net/john-deere-l.html">information on the John Deere LA tractor</a>.

Hope this helps.

If you could get your hands on that marketing book from the link James posted you would be golden! I want to say there was a page in that book that marketed the LA as the tractor to replace your last team of horses. The site however is pretty spot on except one thing I noticed. It mentions the 540 PTO on the LA. That was an option, a very rare option. I have never seen one of those PTO's in person and you see maybe 1 or 2 listed on this site for sale per year.

The LA had TONS of implements you could get for it which were common like cultivators, land plow and sickle bar mower. Drawback of that is most just worked on the L series since the tractor did not have a 3 point hitch. Unlike almost all other Deere models where an aftermarket or Deere made 3pt hitch is/was available. Implements were all bolted directly to the tractor. I've never hitched up a team of horses but I will tell you mounting a full set of mid and rear cultivators on a L series tractor takes some time and muscle!

I think when I sold my LA last year I sent that sales book with it. I will try and look and see if I have it still. If I do I will try and scan in some of the more interesting pages.

They were built at the Quad Cities wagon works, many during the war, you can see the spatter on the welds from the inexperienced welders.
