JD 1010 Crawler

I might jumped from the frying pan into the fire, I purchased a 1010 yesterday, took Tim S, JDEM, and B&D advice.
But could not see where I could go wrong, got it for $700.00, the under carriage is in really good shape, final drive gears shows no or very little wear. Has loader rather than a blade, but I have access to most everything to change it over to blade. If motor does not run and is not repairable, I will adapted a 192 Ford engine I have into it. I WILL have it working before the end of summer, I have a lot of dirt to move, and irrigation ditches the fill in. I will be on this forum picking everyone's, brain, since what I know about John Deeres will fill a sewing thimble then run out.
I will pick it up next Wed

Thanks everyone for your input and advice, will keep everyone informed on progress.

Getting ahead of the game, I ordered service manual for the 1000 series JD crawlers. Ya can't do much without manuals!!

Good luck with it.
Gas or Diesel?
They're decent machines when running. If not, then hopefully you have deep pockets.
Early or late model? (Shifter on dash)

(quoted from post at 09:25:51 07/14/17) Gas, it's like any other machine if properly serviced and not abused should work just fine.

Just pray that the sleeves are good. Otherwise you'll have to replace the deck and those aren't cheap.

The owner already replaced the deck last year. Partially tore apart as his so was going to work on the hydraulic
pump. I already found where I can get the deck w/sleeves for less than $900.00. Like I said earlier, if the motor is bad I'll transplant my Ford 192 CI engine in it. I have a milling Machine and a lathe, I think I can manufacture adapter plate if need be.

There's a place in NC where you can get a used one (salvage) for 250-300.
