JD Combine Engine From a 1085

Yes it will fit, maybe a few very minor things may need altered,it would put new life in a 4620.

It will fit, but it is a 466, in my opinion identical to a 4640 motor (A -pump).
On chopper engines, the injection pump is set to run at full rpm only and the torque curve is totally different from a tractor. You will have no grunt at low RPM. I guess that you will have the same problem.
But that can easily be adjusted with the torque screw.

What is your issue with the 4620 motor? Is the block good and rebuidable? I might be interested, I live in Northern France.

Thanks for the reply. The 4620 engine is pretty good, burns no oil and has 40 - 45PSI oil pressure. I'm sure it is re-buildable. Injectors & pump are new. It does have
some blow by & is hard to start so suspect it needs pistons / rings & maybe a head rebuild.

Thanks very much Tim. Any idea what might need to be modified? Trying to weigh up the pros / cons of fitting this engine vs overhauling existing 404.

Possibly opening the center of the flywheel a bit to fit the flange on the newer engine, maybe altering the front pulley a bit for the pump shaft to work out, and your steering lines come up between the frame and the side rail on the left I think so a little change there maybe,, nothing expensive...
